Beyond the core curriculum, our enrichment classes give each student opportunities to enhance their learning through art, music, Spanish language, and physical education.
Art
Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade students work hard to think and create as real artists. While working with various media we learn new techniques and art-making processess. Students are exploring materials such as drawing, paiting, collaging, sculpting, and printmaking.
The St. Edward art room is set up as a Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) studio. TAB is a nationally recognized choice-based art education approach. This philosophy enables students to work as artists through authentic learning opportunities and responsive teaching. Choice-based art education supports miltiple modes of learning and assesment for the diverse needs of students. The teacher provides whole and small group demonstrations, as well as one-on-one instruction designed to meet individual interests and needs. Students teach each other skills they have mastered, giving them more ownership over their learning.
Music
Music has been a tradition at our school since the beginning and our music program has been recognized by the Archdiocese of Chicago as one of the best in Cook and Lake County. All students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade have weekly music classes and students can sign up for individual lessons for a particular instrument. Our school orchestra performs at least twice a year in addition to a recital for each student to show off their own skills and growth through the year. For more information on our music program, you can e-mail Mrs. Megan Sullivan, our Music Director at [email protected]
